Slovenian Small Shareholders Association
in the process of becoming of a member of Euroshareholders

Date: 20.07.2006
Place:  Premises of General Secretariat of Euroshareholders, Brussels

Overview

Slovenian Small Shareholders Association is a non-profit organisation with legal status. Kristjan Verbič is president and Dr. Ludvik Toplak  vice-president.

The Slovenian name is Vseslovensko združenje malih deležnikov, known as VZMD.

Its mission is to protect and defend the rights of small shareholders.

Its role in Slovenia is very important because recent privatisations have made almost half of population shareholders.

The principal activity of the Association is to provide information and education to individual investors. Educational seminars will start in autumn.

It has over 200 hundred full members and over 1000 co-opted members. This number is likely to increase as privatisation in Slovenia is still underway.

It is a young organisation with important successes already. For example a successful campaign to retain the rights of 70,000 shareholders from the Activa Group, and active intervention against Mercator and Petrol.
